General duties of the Custodian include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Ensure spaces are cleaned, stocked with supplies, and prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces
- Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets
- Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap)
- Wipe mirrors and windows
- Maintain outer premises by watering plants, mowing lawn, cleaning entrances
- Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.)
- Report major damages to management and oversee repairs
- Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities
- Carry out heavy cleansing tasks and special projects (summer cleaning, support for district level events, etc.
- Stock and maintain supply rooms
- Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm
- Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.)
- Follow all health and safety regulations
- Other duties as assigned.

- Works to promote the well-being and success of the building up-keep for co-workers, administration, division staff, students, and parents concerning cleaning/maintenance inquiries
- Adheres to federal and state laws, school and division policies, and ethical guidelines.
- Sets goals for improvement of knowledge and skills.
- Works in a collegial and collaborative manner with maintenance and school level staff, administrators, other school personnel, parents, and community.
- Report to work regularly, good attendance and have flexibility for late and early shifts as assigned.
